I. Introduction of the mail system:

Email server is one of the important servers the computing center provides for all users of IHEP and mainly undertakes the internal and external Email communication tasks of IHEP. The current IHEP server name is mail.ihep.ac.cn. It provides such functions as POP3s, IMAPs, SMTPs, nickname, Maillist, Webmail and Anti-Spam.
Format of IHEP mailbox: user@ihep.ac.cn or user@mail.ihep.ac.cn

II. Mail account application and management

The mail server administrator provides technical support in the aspect of mail server account management and maintenance for the users of IHEP. The concrete service content includes:

1. Establishment and activation of a mail account: If you don’t have a mail server account of IHEP (don’t have an electronic mail box of IHEP), but for work needs, you want to establish a new mail account and use it, please download Application form, fill in it and submit it to the network group of the computing center. Our management personnel will establish and open a new mailbox for you, for use.

2. Cancellation of a mail account: If you leave IHEP due to job transfer, graduation or for other reasons and need to cancel your mail account, you only need to go to the network group of the computing center, provide related supporting documents and ask an administrator to cancel your mail account on the mail server of IHEP for you.

3. Password modification: If you forget your password for any reason and are unable to log in your mailbox, you may directly contact the administrator. After confirming your identity, the administrator may help you modify the password and provide the mailbox to you again, for use.

4. Other problems encountered during mail reception and sending: If you meet with any problem during use of the mail server, you may contact the administrator. The mail server administrator will assist you solving the problem.

III. Use method

1. Setting of mail client
1) Configuration specification of Microsoft Outlook 2010:
    a. Open Microsoft Outlook and click “File”-> “Account setting”.
    b. Click “New”.
    c. Select “Manually configure server setting or other server types”->“Next”.
    d. Select “Internet email”-> “Next”.
    e. Enter corresponding information. In “server information”, the user is strongly recommended to select “IMAP” in “Account type” column.
    f. Click “Other settings” in the above diagram, click “Sending server” and select “My sending server (SMTP) requires verification”.
    g. Click “Advanced”. It is strongly recommended to select SSL as “Encrypted connection type”, with the corresponding port number. Then click “OK”.
    h. Click “Next” and click “Complete”.
By now, Microsoft Outlook 2010 mail client configuration is completed. The user may receive and send mails through this mail client.

2) Configuration specification of Foxmail7:
    a. Open Foxmail7 and click “Account management”.
    b. Click “New” .
    c. Enter corresponding information and click “Create”. See the following diagram.
    d. Enter corresponding information. In “Type of receiving server” column, it is strongly recommended to select “IMAP” and to select “SSL” as encrypted connection type, and click “Create”.
    e. Lastly, click “Complete”.
By now, Foxmail7 mail client configuration is completed. The user may receive and send mails through this mail client.

2. Configuration specification of Android system mobile phone mail application program (Android system mobile phone setting interface is slightly different. The basic operation is similar)
    a. Switch on the mobile phone and enter “Mail” of Android system;
    b. If you use China Mobile network, a reminder of connection failure will appear at the page. Please select “Set” to open China Mobile network.
    c. Click menu key after setting of China Mobile network, and select “More”-->“New account”
    d. Select mail provider “Others (POP3/IMAP)”;
    e. Input your complete mailbox username (username@ihep.ac.cn) and mailbox password and click “Next”;
    f. The user is strongly recommended to set IMAP as the receiving server;
    g. Setting of the receiving server: Address of IMAP receiving server: mail.ihep.ac.cn, security type: SSL, port number: 993; click “Next” after the setting;
    h. Setting of the sending server: Address of IMAP sending server: mail.ihep.ac.cn, security type: SSL, port number: 465; click “Next” after the setting;
    i. Enter account name and the name displayed at the sender;
    j. Click “End setting”. Mails can be received and sent.

3. Configuration specification of iPhone mail application program
    a. Enter iPhone “Set”->“Mail, directory and calendar” -> “Add an account” ->“Others”;
    b. Enter mailbox information: “Name” (ad libitum), “Address” (username@ihep.ac.cn), “Password”, “Describe” (it may be skipped), and click “Next”;
    c. Select IMAP service
        Host name of the receiving server: mail.ihep.ac.cn
        Host name of the sending server: mail.ihep.ac.cn
        Enter correct username and password, click “Next”, and click “Store”;
    d. Setting of the sending server
        Select a sending server and use of SSL, port number: 465

4. Configuration specification of Mac system mail application program
    a. Click “Mail”, “Preference setting”
    b. Click “Account”
    c. Click (left bottom corner) “+”
    d. Input full name, full name of e-mail address (user@ihep.ac.cn) and password, and click “Continue”
    e. Select account type: [imap], receiving server: mail.ihep.ac.cn, input [full name of email address (user@ihep.ac.cn)] in the input box, input password and click [Continue].
    f. Please tick “Use SSL”, and click “Continue”;
    g. Input [full name of email address (user@ihep.ac.cn)] in the description input box, sending server: mail.ihep.ac.cn, tick [Use authentication], input [full name of email address (user@ihep.ac.cn)] and password in the username input box below, and click [Continue];
    h. Please tick “Use SSL”, and click “Continue”;
    i. Display “Account abstract” and click “Create”. By now an account is successfully set.
